IGBO 300 / 800 awards

To keep our IGBO eIfno sports group focused on notices for the good of the membership as opposed to open discussion, this topic has been moved to the IGBO Blog. Please continue commentaries here rather than the eInfo group.

Here members may continue discussions regarding our P&P rule VIII AWARDS

Tournament results

Posted on behalf of Ken Dowling.

A bowler enters a tournament and claims to have an average that is well below what should have been his actual entry average. More than a month after the tournament, the cover letter accompanying the final standings apologizes for being late due to the resolution of the dispute over the entry average. The final standings indicate an entry average of 225 and tournament average of 224. The bowler is rewarded with second place team, second place doubles, and first place team all events. No explanation in the cover letter by the tournament committee and nothing on the tournament.

Website up and available for new software program!

We are posting this blog on behalf of IGBO and Mr. Steve Straley. He has acquired a website and the tournament software program he has developed called IGBO-TS is available to down load on your computers for our member tournaments that are interested. I am inserting the directions on the download process directly from an email blast that Steve submitted on our einfogroups address.I am including Steve's email address in the event you have problems or questions regarding the site as well as the program itself. His email is stevestraley@gmail.com.

I finally have a general beta candidate for IGBO-TS (tournament software) available to anyone who wants to take a look.  Please see the computer/printer requirements located at http://trakkersoftware.us/IGBOTS_1.htm before installing.   The 1.0.7 full install needs to be installed first.  Once that is installed on your machine, you can then upgrade to 1.0.8 by downloading that ZIP file and unzipping the contents into their default folder paths burned into each file.  You can download all of these, as well as an older copy of the documentation and recent release notes, via this link: http://trakkersoftware.us/IGBOTS_download.html.

If you are unfamiliar with IGBO-TS, you can go through “some” of the features starting at this link: http://trakkersoftware.us/IGBOTS_1.htm

We hope that you find this posting, the program, and it's creator helpful. We know many of you use and like BOWLTS, and we are by no means promoting one over the other. We will let you decide on which one fits your needs best.

We hope to see many of you at our upcoming tournament forum meeting in May during IGBO annual here in Atlanta.

Northeast Region Blog

Hi Everybody,

This is my first post to the Northeast Blog. We are coming into a very exciting time for the Northeast. For the first time in 8 years, there will be an IGBO Midyear Tournament in Syracuse NY in November 2009. And with a little luck, the 30th Anniversary IGBO Annual Tournament will be in Washington,DC in May 2010. After having been all over the country to these various tournaments over the past 6 years, now it is our turn.

I am sure by now some of you are sick of me touting the "Northeast Region", but get used to it, it is my job, the job I was elected to do. I want to make sure that this region, every bowler, every league and every tournament, gets what is coming to them from IGBO. IGBO offers enormous benefits for everyone and I want to see those benefits taken advantage of. From 300/800 shirts for the bowlers,to end of year awards for every league, to Storm merchandise for the tournaments, to advertising on the web. These are some of the services IGBO provides to its members. I recently sent out an email about the upcoming Northeast Raffle to support Syracuse. With the support and generous donations by members in our region we have a gift basket that is really incredible. Currently valued at over $2500 (and still growing), this raffle is a way for all the leagues in the region to help support Syracuse. I had originally thought the drawing would be in New Haven, but have decided to postpone the drawing until Gotham in NY in April. This gives us more time to get the tickets out there to the different leagues in the Region. Everyone has the same chance to win, $5 a ticket or 3 for $10, I believe this is a very fair price when you look at all of the merchandise in the basket.

One more thing, please pass this information about the blog onto to all of your bowlers. This is everyones blog and I want to hear from you. If you have good news about your league or a bowler, tell me. If you dont like the way IGBO is doing something, tell me. If you do something in your league that you would like to share with the other leagues, tell me. It can all be posted here on the blog. Just tell all of your bowlers to go to this link, http://igbo.typepad.com/members, and they can have a say in IGBO.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this, I will be at the Sweetheart Tournament in February and at the Gotham Tournament in April. I will be having a meet and greet meeting at both and I look forward to seeing you there.

Corporate Sponsorship Tip

Hot off the presses!

As the learning curve continues with corporate sponsorship, I wanted to forward what I have learned so you may utilize it with your tournament.

When attempting to secure a corporate sponsor, especially an alcohol sponsor, offer them the hospitality suite. Use the language that not only do we want to bring you on as a corporate sponsor, but we would like for you to ACTIVATE the hospitality suite.

After you select your hotel, go to the Food and Beverage Manager, ask them who their supplier is, then get them on board. They already have the relationship with the hotel and can get the product in much easier.

Any questions, feel free to call.

More to come…

Mid-Year Update

First and foremost, my apologies for not getting this blog updated as promised in Oklahoma City. IGBO Mid-Year left me a bit under the weather, and I am just now getting back around to the work at hand.

For our general membership, please find our committee report below. I know I promised to have the pdf up, however, I will hold off on posting our corporate sponsorship package until I have aggregated the data from the Mid-Year Survey. Once completed, I will forward to the Webmaster. Meanwhile, here is the current file. (view at the bottom of this post)

Please forward any comments/questions/referrals.

Yours in Service,
L. E. “Lee” McLemore, PhD
l.e.mclemore@mac.com

Committee Objectives:
1. To acquire corporate sponsorship to include, but not be limited to, monetary donations and merchandise, as well as products and services for our members.
2. To promote and increase asset value of the IGBO brand.
3. To continue to collect, aggregate and disseminate statistical data that will be used in the development and growth of the IGBO organization.

Our Customers:
1. IGBO: Primary mission is to acquire corporate partners, to include funding for the National Organization, products and services for raffles, as well as to assist with Corporate Sponsorships for Annual and Mid-year – Fundraising Chair would be an Ad Hoc member to the MSR Committee.
2. Bowlers: To provide opportunities, discounts and benefits for our IGBO members – Membership Chairs would be Ad Hoc members to the MSR Committee.
3. Local Tournaments: To be a liaison/consultant to assist local tournaments with their corporate sponsorships – Regional Director/Tournament Directors would be Ad Hoc members to the Fundraising Committee.

Possible ways to sponsor (may be one or more):
1. Funding
2. Large giveaway items (i.e., Storm balls)
3. Large items that may be raffled off
4. Marketing Products such as bag stuffers

Where are we going?
IGBO Credit Card.
National Car Partner
National Airline Partner
National Hotel Partner

Results from both the Board and General Membership Committees:
1. We need to develop a corporate sponsorship database so that other tournaments may have the same support from like companies in their own region.
2. We need to survey tournament directors and create a list of charities as well as the amount of money that we as gay and lesbian bowlers give on an annual basis. From a very rough calculation, our group collectively gives over a million dollars to charities. This is significant when going after corporate dollars.
3. Other suggested companies are:
Atlantis Cruise – Rich Campbell
Met Life (Diversity Council)
RSVP Cruises (this may be the same as Atlantis-not sure)
Hartford

Member Tournament Feedback

Greetings Tournament Directors Past & Present:

Our committee has been asked to gather feedback regarding how best to handle our member tournaments that are not complying with their responsibilities as an IGBO member tournament. Apparently several have not or are very tardy in doing so the reporting of scores that were bowled at their tournament including scratch masters, as well as paying the fifty cents per bowler that attended their tournament. This information if you want to refresh your self with can be found in the handbook (which you can download and review to verify) it is article 4.3 Responsibilities of Membership ion the P&P section.

Several ideas were discussed by the attendees at our meeting in Oklahoma City at Mid-year, and the following is what we want your input on.

  1. The regional director would send a friendly email reminder to the tournament at the 30 day mark of the conclusion of the tournament to make sure they are in compliance with their duties as members. This would be copied to the board for verification purposes.
  2. If scoring information. and or money has not been reported or collected by the 45 day mark after the tournament then a registered letter will be sent to the member tournament that has to be signed for (for verification purposes) to let them know they have 2 weeks from receipt of letter to comply, and if not then this will be in direct violation of membership, and their membership in IGBO could be subject to termination at the discretion of the board or a monetary fine for failure to be compliant with their duties as members if IGBO.

These ideas or suggestions are not set in stone we welcome any and all feedback regarding the issue at hand. I would like to ask that you respond no later than 12/31/07. So that any recommendation or change to P&P can be presented to the board.
