Russell Thatcher, Co-diretor of the new Chuzapalooza tournament in Tucson, AZ rasied a very interesting question on our Yahoo eInfor group last month. Now that we have a IGBO Blog, his question might be better suited here to start discusion. This way we can see all the replies (comments) in one consolidated area.
Here is his orignal post/query:
Hello All,
I'm looking for suggestions for some fundraisers for the Chuzapalooza tournament in Tucson, AZ. Any extra money we raise will be going toward our prize fund, so let's raise a lot of money! :-)
Please let me know about any successful fundraisers you might have had! Thanks!
Russ
Here are some comments posted afterwards.
Timm Sheehan: How About a garage sale, or white elephant sales, a bus trip to a function like a baseball game or day trip to casino that is what we have done here in Vegas for fundraising, I'll think of some more and let you know.
Larry: We did a football pool grid.. you have Arizona... you charge $2 a square... get $200... pay out $100 ($25 a quarter 1-2-3 and end of game) Keep $100 for your tournament. 16 weeks -- $1,600. That is one.. besides the regular.. fun bowls.. mystery numbers.. so on. Hope this helps.
Donnie Chance: When we did the garage sale we did it in May when the weather was little cooler ( 100 degrees instead of 110 degrees). You guys will understand what I mean:) We are going to rent a spot at the local Flea market this fall when are back at the 80 degrees weather and do yard sale from their. It might be something for you to look into. You would have a lot more people. The other one we are doing for our IGBO 2009 tournament is a mega raffle. How that works in you make up 200 ( or how many you want too) sale for $10.00 each. You keep half and one person wins the other half.
Bill Gerstmeyer: Well I have served on committees for Detroit (MIC) and Columbus (COMIC)--in the past we have teamed up with local bars and some have set aside a bar night--usually on Friday where the committee members charge a $1 or $2 cover charge--more of a donation--for exchange for advertising in the program. Also we worked the State Fair and at Tiger Stadium for a set fee volunteering at concessions and they function made a generous donation to the organization. Mini tourneys throughout the year can help.
